Director of Online Community at GreatSchools
Description
We're looking for a Director to lead, shape, and manage all things community on GreatSchools.org and on our recently launched College Bound site, an online parent training program for low-to-moderate income families. This person will be responsible for managing all activity that involves directly interacting with our users, from building a robust parenting community on GreatSchools, to managing a team of online coaches for College Bound, to overseeing our help desk for both. The Director will be responsible for helping define our community-building strategy as well as for how the community team is organized.
We're looking for someone who has a background in community development along with extensive experience building and managing teams. This position will report to the VP of Product Strategy.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Set strategy for growing the GreatSchools.org and College Bound communities.
* Develop innovative ways to solicit high levels of user contributions.
* Use marketing savvy to inspire community participation.
* Creatively curate and repackage user-driven content.
* Help coaches figure out how to encourage parent participation plus manage and oversee their training. Most coaches are contractors who will work off-site.
* Shape messaging from coaches in emails and on site.
* Oversee the help desk by developing efficient ways to answer questions raised by users on both GreatSchools.org and College Bound.
Experience/Education/Skills Required:
* Experience serving low-literacy and/or less computer-savvy consumers preferred
* Internet-savvy with at least five years experience working on a community site
* Experience soliciting, cultivating, and repackaging user-driven content
* Highly organized
* Capable of structuring a new department and establishing an efficient work process
* Proven ability to build and manage teams
* Solid writing and editing experience required
* Consumer marketing background a plus
* Social media working experience preferred, but points given for dedicated users
* Flexible enough to thrive in our fast-changing environment
* Applicants who speak Spanish and English desired
